It is said that in life, whether something is true or false depends on the eye of the beholder. This saying expresses the manifold, almost infinite, points of view from which we can see anything or any fact. The Baroque is undoubtedly the artistic style that best expresses this complexity. And while this complexity is a universal feature, in Galicia it is particularly prominent, given the variety and subtlety of the landscape, topography, climate and carácter of its people, all of which make Galicia a land of baroque wonder.
What is the Baroque? The Baroque is complex but subtle, ordered by sentiment and sensuality; it is elegant; it knows how to contain itself in expression and excessively purify itself. It never becomes Rococo and has close ties with classicism in shedding the superfluous, sensing the beyond and creating mystery.
So I wanted the most emblematic and singular space of the building, the foyer, to be a modern, contemporary andavant-garde space of today whilst also being a true expression of a nation and character capable of reaching a level of complexity that only the Baroque is able to reach and communicate.
This would explain the reason behind the existence and layout of the walkways and of a series of sculptures that are placed on each level, implicating and enriching the great central void, from which any observer, depending on their level and position, would see the world differently, under the gaze of that overhead oculus, permanently linked to the cosmos.
